Kurt Schilling, Principal Investigator
Kurt Schilling earned his PhD in biomedical engineering from Vanderbilt University, and completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at Vanderbilt University Institute of Imaging Science (VUIIS). In 2020, he joined the Vanderbilt faculty as Research Assistant Professor.
Dr. Schilling’s research is focused on image acquisition, processing, and modeling of medical images in order to map the microstructural and connectivity of the brain and spinal cord.
His primary goal is to advance imaging of tissue microstructure and structural connectivity of the brain and spinal cord to better understand the biology of health and disease in the central nervous system. He has a broad background in biomedical imaging, with specific training in pulse sequence design, image acquisition development, image processing, and bioinformatics and analysis of large multimodal datasets. Ongoing efforts the M&C lab include developing structural and functional imaging methods to map the neural connections of the brain, improving image acquisition and processing of the brain and spinal cord, and developing pipelines and platforms to translate these tools into the clinical practice environment.
